A ver... acabo de intentar esto y me ha funcionado!!! :D
Entra a la consola y como root (su (Enter) contraseña del root), tecleas:
A mi me dio un mensaje asi:

Y ahora sí... tecleando
http://localhost/ en firefox (es el que uso :D) me ha mostrado la pagina de apache.
