variables mediante form Xampp duda basica

Hola ! estoy haciendo un tutorial muy basico y resulta que no me escribe el valor que inserto en el campo. Que estoy haciendo mal?

Ver original//cambia esto
echo $mes;
// por esto otro
echo $_POST['mes'];
