ajax con PHP5

tengo este codigo de ajax:

Estoy probando este codigo en PHP 5 y al parecer no me funciona, solo con PHP 4. Alguien me podria decir cual podria ser mi error?... Osi alguien puede decirme si la sintaxis de PHP 4 cambia a PHP5?...

Si alguien puede ayudarme les agradeceria mucho su ayuda...
