VLC se cierra al cargar videos en Debian Lenny

Ejecuté VLC desde consola, y mostró lo siguiente :

$ vlc
VLC media player 1.0.3 Goldeneye
[0x92b28a8] main libvlc: Ejecutar vlc con el interfaz por defecto. Usa 'cvlc' para usar vlc sin interfaz.

Mostró la interfaz gráfica y seleccioné el archivo de video .avi, luego :
