Problema instalación de ie6

Hola;

He intentado instalar Internet explorer 6 sin éxito, el
mensaje de error que aparece en pantalla es el
siguiente: "Está pendiente la finalización de una
instalación previa que necesita reiniciar el equipo.
Necesita reinicar su PC para completar esa instalación
antes de ejecutar el programa de instalación de Internet
Explorer. La instalación se va a cerrar"

He seguido los pasos de este articulo de microsoft pero tampoco funciona, aunque reinicie el equipo.

Se me olvidaba decir que mi sistema operativo es Windows 2000 Profesional Edition con Service Pack 4

Desintala la vercion vieja, reinicia e instala la nueva.

A alguien se le ocurre algo???
He probado de todo, y cuando intento instalar algún programa de microsoft como ie6 ó SQL Server 2000, me sale ese mensaje.

NOTE: If you try to install Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:


A previous program installation was never completed.
You need to restart your computer to complete that installation before running Internet Explorer Setup. Setup will now close.


To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. In Registry Editor, locate and click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager
NOTE: In this registry key, Session Manager is two words.
4. In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, right-click PendingFileRenameOperations, and then click Delete.
5. On the Confirm Value Delete message that appears, click Yes.
6. In the left pane of the Registry Editor window, expand the Session Manager subkey.
7. If a FileRenameOperations subkey is listed, click it, and then delete all entries from the FileRenameOperations subkey in the right pane.
8. Quit Registry Editor.
9. Restart Internet Explorer Setup.
