Welcome to another edition of the Total War newsletter. It's been awhile but, hey, we've been busy working on the greatest Total War game ever, so I'm sure you can forgive us. To make up for being incommunicado, here are a couple of new exclusive screenshots from Medieval 2.
We kick things off with a closer a look at one of Medieval 2's units. This first screenshot brings you up close and personal with the armored swordsman. Employed in the field by the English faction, this unit may lack the funds for the expensive charger required as a mount but that's all that prevents these minor gentry from earning the right to call themselves full-blown knights. Their lack of status certainly doesn't prevent them from putting their formidable plate armor and fearsome longswords to good use in battle.

We actually put them to work in the battle that's featured in the second shot. Taken from a clash between the English and the French, this screen further illustrates the darker side of Medieval 2. Set against the backdrop of a European castle and a stormy sky, it typifies some of the battle scenes you can expect to see. French cavalry lay strewn on the field of conflict but you can just make out the dust kicking up in the background as a second French cavalry charge approaches.

We'll bring you more exclusive screens in the weeks ahead and very soon we'll begin our developer diaries that will bring you even closer to the game as it's taking shape. Until then keep an eye on www.totalwar.com for regular Medieval 2 updates.
